What is a Charrette?

A charrette involves a series of workshops where stakeholders (people who have an interest in an area or community) collaborate with designers, planners and engineers to draft solutions to a design problem.

The group normally divides into sub-groups to develop ideas which get presented to the wider group to further discussion and assist with problem solving. Charrettes normally take place over a few days and are an interesting, effective and efficient way of generating a design solution that takes on board the views of a cross section of the community.
